About Michelle

Michelle Simson was first elected as a Member of Parliament in October 2008.

Michelle currently sits as a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women and is also the Co-chair of the National Liberal Caucus Communications Committee and Treasurer of the GTA/Ontario Liberal Caucus.

For 16 years Michelle was the Vice-President and General Manager of a leasing firm located in Scarborough. She also worked in Scarborough for another leasing firm and a major Canadian Bank, in various managerial capacities. Michelle is very active in the Liberal Party and in the community.

Her most recent roles, until her election as the Member of Parliament for Scarborough Southwest included President of the Ontario Women's Liberal Commission, President of Scarborough-Rouge River Federal Liberal Association, member of the Ontario Liberal Party Executive Council, LPC(O) Management Committee member and Chair of the Provincial Margaret Campbell Fund.

Michelle is also active in her community. She served as President of the Parent’s Auxiliary at the high school attended by her son. Michelle also served as Treasurer of his Scarborough Hockey league and as a member of the Board of her condominium corporation since 1997. Michelle made the decision to run in the riding of Scarborough Southwest because of her strong ties to the community, having lived and worked in Scarborough for over 25 years.

Michelle is particularly passionate about the challenges facing many families in the riding. Most notably she would like to ensure that all working families participate in the economic prosperity currently enjoyed by most Canadians. She will tackle the issue of over 800,000 children and 500,000 seniors living in poverty across the country and work to ensure a safe, healthy, and clean environment for all residents in the community.

Her extensive corporate and small business background, first hand experience and challenges she faced as a working wife and mother, combined with her enthusiasm, dedication to serving her community and personal integrity make her the ideal candidate to serve the residents of Scarborough Southwest as their  Member of Parliament.

Michelle has been married to husband George Simson for over 35 years and they are the proud parents of one son, Eric.
